#StayInTune with #DJFreedomLives (DJ Freedom)!
Every Wednesday at 7pm, est...a new mixtape mix show. Many will come directly from my weekly radio shows, but I may also create a special mix JUST for listeners who can appreciate a commercial-free, drop free (other than my own) mix. The catch: the mixes will be just under 80 minutes as I may decide to press up promotional CDs to give away at events and parties I am producing and/or booked for. UrbanMovementRadio.com Listen to my shows every Saturday, 4-6pm est. on UrbanMovementRadio.com. Here is the schedule for the next month: "Classic Pitch Workout" (12.31.16) ...this classic disco, garage, loft and old school show will combine four (4) major themes: Motown, Philly Soul, Salsoul and some of my own remixes and favorites. Motown speaks for itself, but "Philly Soul" refers to the kind of classics released in the 70's to the mid-80's. These songs and artists crafted songs and albums that are timeless-messages of every kind with well written verses, excellent delivery and of course-the MUSIC was what brought it all together. "Philly Soul" was not only a sound but a record label specifically known as Philadelphia International Records. The label was distributed by CBS Records (Sony Music Group today) and is featured on more radio stations around the world than any other record label and production team. "Salsoul" is named after the record label Salsoul Records. They came along in the 70's and 80's as well-crafting a similar sound and style as Philly Soul only there were more disco and Latin stylings in some of the songs (hence the combination of the words "salsa" and "soul")...but they would find their greatest success in artists like Instant Funk and Skyy. This show over the next several editions will explore the various styles of these different record labels, which were movements in sound and style. They are significant to today's music and are widely sampled and influence what producers and artists do! "Club Massive" (01.07.17) This show used to air on Wednesdays weekly during the summer and fall of 2016. The themes changed weekly-from Samba and Tropical House to Moomba and top 40. All of the songs are remixed and then reworked live during the mix. I introduced a theme called "Global Fusion" in this show, but GF has gone on to become its own theme-a cross between house and club but with global and urban flair. "Club Massive" will this time focus on a sub-theme I call "Disco In The House" or "Neo Disco." Haven't fully decided yet...but it will be hints of disco with upbeat, peak-hour dance grooves and songs. "Hip Hop Lives!" (01.14.17) This show will feature a return to a theme I introduced last year on my "Soul Massive" show. All throughout my shows that feature R&B or Neo Soul, I have always played hip-hop. It is what I grew up listening to and I am happy to present this unique mix show that will feal like a mix tape, with freestyles, spoken word bits and sound bites from famous people of all walks of life. "Hip Hop Lives" may evolve into "Hip Hop Is Life," which is how I post on Instagram and other pages weekly theme-wise. But it will always be about hip-hop that is big on lyricism, good instrumentals and artists who represent with subject matter beyond guns, girls and guap/gwap/gwop (however you spell it). "House Massive" (01.21.17) This show has been with me under many names over the years-"Dance After Dark" may come up in searches online. But "House Massive" is mainly for the soulful house community; it is decidedly underground and features mainly independent artists. They are generally speaking very well known and have healthy careers but you will not hear most of them on commercial radio, see their videos go viral or see them perform when they travel to the limited number of American cities that will have them. This is based on politics in the business of music for songs by artists who the commercial major labels control-I won't get into that here. Let's just say the music is definitely good, and you will always enjoy every theme IF you like house music. This particular show theme will focus on original songs and tracks I am going to release legally. Some of the singles already appear in shows I have produced for Urban Movement Radio but others were only played on mix shows posted independent of those shows. This will be the first time you will get to hear ONLY songs and tracks I have produced and/or remixed. "Soul Massive" (1.28.17) I haven't decided yet what the theme will be for this show but it will likely be the usual mix ot R&B, neo soul and hip-hop styled tracks and hip-hop soul.
