After 5+ years of the hottest mixes, parties, special events, artist coverage and community announcements I am excited to announce the last official post and closing of Mix To Go Magazine. Why would I be excited about this? Because my reason for launching the magazine was to bring awareness to everything I am involved in-all of which includes the above. It has been an exciting journey, but I am less and less able to focus on original music, artists I work with, shows and parties I want to produce and of course community efforts that have always been close to my heart. Thanks to everyone who has contributed over the years...I hope you enjoyed the ride as much as I did! Support my ongoing ventures that have been advertised in most issues of Mix To Go Mag from the beginning: DJ FREEDOM will continue to be a DJ; RHYTHM & SOUL RECORDS-the label that sponsored all of the promotional mixes featured in Mix To Go Magazine is now releasing completely original mixes and independent artists; AMPLIFIED VENUES continues to represent the finest venues for promoters and everyday people wanting to celebrate life in a nightlife environment and finally COMMUNITY SQUARE will soon return... Check out our still-active Facebook (www.facebook.com/mixtogo), Mix Cloud (www.mixcloud.com/mixtogo), Reverb Nation (www.reverbnation.com/mixtogo) and Sound Cloud pages (www.soundcloud.com/mixtogo and www.soundcloud.com/rhythm-soulrecords). Love and Peace, DJ FREEDOM Founder and Resident DJ Mix To Go Magazine This issue of MIX TO GO MAGAZINE is a change from what we normally do. We reversed the order of the sections ("In The Mix" is in the back and "Amplified" is in the front). We've also deleted "Community Sq" indefinitely and will return with "On The Go" (party and event listings) next issue.
This issue's focus is on the hottest venues in New York City. We selected a number of lounges and nightclubs that are in various neighborhoods and showed you the interior. Part of the reason for this is a new endeavor to present venues available for bookings. Notice how we left the names of the venus out; we don't want people calling and going to them without notice. Why the addition of so much venue focus? Mix To Go Magazine is a promotional tool for Freedom & Martina to promote their businesses...and the businesses of their associates, period. If you go back to all of the issues you will notice the thread between us has always been there-and that of the promoters, DJs, event producers and community organizations we promote...all based on our own connections and relationships. Why not promote ourselves?? Wouldn't you? You'll notice this issue is a double-month issue-first time in many months we've done this. It is time-consuming to construct each issue, and we don't promote Mix To Go Mag as a traditional magazine we sell. When we print it we give it away. Online subscriptions are just that-the issue is bundled into a PDF and we give it away to anyone who asks for it. Our "Mix To Go Massive" group on Facebook is filled with music people who get the benefit of the magazine in the day to day posts of not only Martina and I but also of our entire team-spread all over the world. This is why you don't see a "staff" listing. We don't have one! When we did the turnover was too much to deal with because people see us as a stopover during their rise to stardom and/or success. We are good with that. The schedule for the next series of issues is as follows (subject to change of course!) VOLUME 5 #66 - September 2013 #67 - October/November 2013 #68 - December 2013 (Best of 2013/Mix To Go Awards Issue) #69 - January/February 2014 (Rhythm & Soul Records Issue) #70 - March/April 2014 (Miami Music Week Issue) #71 - May 2014 (Dance Parade Issue) #72 - June 2014 (Black Music Month Issue) #73 - July/August 2014 (Summer Issue) #74 - September 2014 (6th Anniversary Issue) See you next month where-as you'll notice above-we feature the best of 2013 in our annual "Mix To Go Awards" focus. Thanks to the DJs, artists and music supporters who weighed in and for our film friends at Rotten Tomatoes for the #filmstogo winners...as well as the community activists who told us who the best charities and causes of the year are. Freedom J. Harris, Editor-In-Chief/Resident DJ Mix To Go Magazine The Toronto International Film Festival is the leading public film festival in the world, screening more than 300 films from 60+ countries every September. Their programmers have earned a reputation for excellence, and a diverse array of films are shown: Hollywood galas, complete with red carpet glamour; the best in international cinema, the latest homegrown comedies… and everything in between. TIFF films are divided into Programmes to help guide your choices. Love horror flicks? Check out Midnight Madness! Feeling edgy? Try Vanguard. Need a mini stay-cation? Contemporary World Cinema may be for you. We have been supportive of the TIFF since our inception...you missed this year's festivities but you can look back on it via their WEBSITE...and plan now for next year! Richard Pryor...arguably the funniest man to ever pick up a microphone and tell jokes has been brought back to life yet again in a new Showtime documentary. We have been down this road before-Comedy Central did a doc on Mr. Pryor some years ago called "I'm Not Dead Yet!" (expletives deleted) that was overseen by his last wife and featured commentary by many of his peers. But this one proves to be as good and better with even more celebrities chiming about not just the funniest moments but also his more tragic realities as well. If you are familiar with the RP story (see "JoJo Dancer, Your Life Is Calling") then you already know. You should see that as Richard Pryor himself is starring in it along with actor-friend Debbie Allen and many others. We thought that film said all that needed to be said...but after these documentaries you will learn more-and even be haunted by how his very essence seems to come alive on screen. Enjoy the trailer HERE. #filmstogo editors, Freedom & Martina, Mix To Go Magazine Want us to see and review your film? [email protected] or a message through our SUBSCRIBE page. WATCH THE FULL LENGTH FILM BY GOING HERE!#mixtogomiami was destined to be THE destination for the very best in nightlife in Miami Beach. We are #amplified about the responses we have gotten from our team on the new addition to the #mixtogomassive expansion into Miami Beach. It was meant to be a monthly weekend of parties-a "Mix To Go Music Marathon"-and now we are quickly becoming one of the premier voices on what is hot in Miami Beach nightlife!
We hope everyone will #partyresponsibly as they venture into the night. The weather is cooling down a bit and that means you can enjoy a nice walk in South Beach from Mansion at the northern end to Room Service (only a few blocks down) to Bamboo (a few more blocks down) to Story, then from Collins to Ocean Drive where you end up at LIV for Paul Oakenfold's rare SoBe set. We are supporters of all kinds of dance music but our favorites are house, EDM and top 40 dance mash ups. Everything else falls in-between these formats so when you go to any of our top 4 selections below, you will hear a little of them all! We didn't mention ALL of the hotspots in SoBe or Miami Beach; that is NOT the point! We are here to give you the HOTTEST. If you disagree then send us a note via our twitter.com/mixtogo or join "Mix To Go Massive" on Facebook and let's talk about it! Until then enjoy our choices for this weekend below! #partyresponsibly #mixtogomiami
