Keeping up with the Jones never had more meaning than it does when you are talking about the internet!
We have added a new page to our site just for photos of events we attend and cover. Only 20 per event will be featured; any others will be featured on our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/mixtogo) as our upload there is much faster than doing it one by one on our site. Top DJ/Producers Dennis Ferrer and Todd Terry both get the "Journey Into" treatment.
Both part of the "Dance After Dark" series (these are 14a and 14b respectively), these two giants of global dance music have contributed a LOT of influence on dancefloors everywhere. Todd Terry especially-his career in production alone is worthy of a dance hall of fame award (we'll be giving him one at OUR ceremony this summer!!!). More important than just another tribute, these mixes feature most of their very best work in remixing, production and/or both. You'll find familiar dance favorites among these, such as the all time champ "I'll House You" by The Jungle Brothers and Barbara Tucker's "Stay Together" on the Todd Terry mix (bet you forgot he was part of THAT song's success mix-wise!). Dennis is newer to the game but exudes verteran moves with extraordinary productions like "Church Lady" and "Hey Hey," both featured here. These two mixes are not meant to be the end all/be all but they do capture some of the best moments of their careers-songs, tracks and remixes that are known worldwide from the first second they are heard. Enjoy these exclusive downloads by DJ Freedom, featured in the current issue of Mix To Go #23 (available NOW!!!) Dance After Dark 14a "Journey Into Dennis Ferrer http://www.megaupload.com/?d=C6CQIY6F Dance After Dark 14b "Journey Into Todd Terry http://www.megaupload.com/?d=VS39GRRA Here it is...at long last!
"A Journey Into Sade" (Dance After Dark Volume 11) Here is the link to the mix: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ZTGN1JD8 It is downloadable as a podcast only-you won't have access to each song separately; for that you will need to subscribe to "Mix To Go" to get all of the tracks separately on a special CD version of the mix (it is also a lot shorter at 77 minutes; this podcast is over 2 hours but you won't be able to listen to each song separately!) It was of course produced by DJ Freedom. :) If you'd like to subscribe to Mix To Go go to the magazine page on our site by clicking here. Mix To Go Magazine recently celebrated the release of its 22nd issue. We are excited about having made it to this milestone of 1 year and growing stronger with each issue.
In a climate where most magazines don't make past the first few issues or even half a year, we are here and healthy due to a non-conventional approach to publishing we KNOW is the reason for our success. The current issue is double its size in pages-from 8 to 16-and features TWO new mixes (although we slipped FOUR in for our loyal subscribers; 2 are podcasts!). Included are several new events recently added to the event calendar, and new advertisers and partnerships are also featured. Our focus will continue to primarily be on events and music with little interest in traditional articles; much of what goes on in the world can be gotten from the internet and it really IS one of the main reasons so many people told us (and STILL tell us) we shouldn't be printing anything! Over 1 year in the business of publishing (a few more "off the books" but we want to be technical here), 22 exclusive mixes all by DJ Freedom and a few others by comrades Steve Nieves, Nino Torre and soon others...and nearly 2 dozen events under our belt in terms of coverage and it is safe to say we are not going anywhere. To celebrate this 1 year landmark, we are now going to make the current issue available on our website AFTER it has run its course in a downloadable PDF (see the new "magazine" page link), as well as a new mix sample of the current issue for you to listen to (you'll have to subscribe to get the "directors' cut"). For more about the magazine, go to the magazine's page for info about it and download a sample for the very first time. If you are a first time visitor you really need to pick up a subscription! It includes the magazine IN PRINT or online (your preference), three podcasts (1 a week) for your MP3 player, our weekly e-blast and soon, subscriber access to an exclusive online community. We won't say more about that last one except you read it first! Look for issue #23 tomorrow (Sunday, May 23, 2010) into the week and we hope you'll join the Mix To Go movement! That's the link to our most currently added event "OLD SCHOOL PARTY CRUISE." Mix To Go Magazine in association with BP chapters in Brooklyn, Houston, Atlanta and Miami present "Old School Party Cruise 2010" We are hosting our FOURTH old school cruise, but this is our first with this theme in three years! Our exclusive production of this event will feature nearly 500 travelers from around the country in attendance for 7 days of the best parties, live shows, social networking, business to business gatherings, relationship workshops and community discussions plus a whole lot more. "Old School" is as common as the references of "back in the day" to just about everything. But when WE say "old school" we mean it the way it was meant to be understood: the best music of the 70's and 80's with sprinkles of the 60's at our Motown themed night, the 90's and even new music in our "Rhythm & Soul Lounge." PORTS OF CALL We LOVE the destinations of this exclusive cruise!! Our journey begins in the beautiful port city of Galveston-less than an hour drive from the city of Houston. Our host group, Black Professionals of Houston, will be overseeing this event in association with groups of a similar nature in Dallas, New Orleans, Oaklahoma City, San Antonio and Austin. Members located in other cities will fly into the city of Houston (we'll assist anyone with the cheapest round trip air-just ask!) and a chartered bus shuttle will carry our groups to Galveston, as group leaders welcome each traveler, explain the inner workings of our trip and give each participant an exclusive gift basket sponsored by Mix To Go Magazine and a number of companies affiliated with the magazine and our various chapters nationwide. Okay...back to the destinations: Sunday, December 5: Galveston is our port-of-call to start the journey at 5pm. That night our launch party will feature the best mix of classic dance, old school R&B/soul/funk from the 70's and 80's and more. Monday, December 6: A full day at sea allows you to explore Royal Caribbean's Voyager of the Seas, while taking in the beauty of the beautiful waters of the Caribbean. Tuesday, December 7: At 7am, we arrive into COZUMEL, MEXICO for a day of exploration, shopping and whatever your imagination desires. This is a short stay and we will meet back on the cruise by 3pm to leave for our next destination by 4pm. Wednesday, December 8: At 10am, we arrive into GEORGE TOWN, GRAND CAYMAN for another day of exciting island exploration. A little later that evening we gather 5pm to leave by 6pm. Thursday, December 9: We arrive 8am to MONTEGO BAY, JAMAICA for a full day of this rich Caribbean paradise known the world over for good food, music, sightseeing and culture. We'll gather at 4:30pm to leave the port 5pm. Friday, December 10 and Saturday December 11: 2 full days of sailing allow you to relax and rest...or you can party on as we close with our "Mixdown to Motown" old school party. Sunday, December 12, 7am: We arrive to Galveston bright and early where shuttle buses will return you to Houston downtown to Greyhound or the airport. There are at the time of this posting only a half dozen type cabins available from $1895-2,4,95. Payment schedules are still available but you'll need to put down HALF to get on board (originally the payments were $250 a month). Don't wait any [email protected] or call (212) 252-2528 to book your cabin today. Yes, we got it together and for TWO great cities!
First, Brooklyn. The negotiations have begun to get our favorite indie soul and R&B bands into Crystal Manor for a show 3 years in the making. Truly, a special thanks to the folks at Crystal for all the time they've given to get our concept for this one night show together. The event will begin in the evening (about 6pm) and go until 12mid in the main ballroom. Smaller acoustic sets and track sets in the lounge next door from 6pm to 2 or 3am (maybe 4am?!) with DJs spinning the best R&B and soul with sprinkles of culture reggae and credible hip-hop. Yes you read right-credible! This show will take place in JULY-mid month ideally. I'll post an update when the deal is finalized. Next up is Atlanta. Getting venues before putting the lineup together seems to be happening more commonly! The date is set for the last weekend in September-Thursday to Sunday at the Life Theatre. That show will be more expansive and feature a much larger setup-although the facility is much smaller. It is about 15 minutes from downtown Atlanta and we are excited to find out we can do our show here annually. The peach is going to get a healthy musical awakening! Stay tuned!
