This post is from my campaign on Indiegogo and PlumFund. Search "The Music Education Summit & Music Festival" to contribute to this campaign.
I must note on Indiegogo and PlumFund there are two levels I am striving for: $6,000 and $12,000. The smaller number is based on securing the venue and artists; the full amount is based on what is needed to do the entire event.
In 2007, I launched "The Rhythm & Soul Music Festival." It started as a way to give voices to musicians who did not have a platform to perform on. It grew when artists also expressed their lack of support for business opportunities. The third reason for RSMF: a lack of music education.
If the third were first the other two could be self-sufficient...self-fulfilling. Why do so many people want to sing, rap or dance? Because it is a way to live from self expression...which has great influence on others who admire and even mimic the artists and musicians they admire.
My cause is music education.
This event will give artists 4 things:
1. A platform to express themselves
2. A way to earn money from their expression
3. A day conference (and ongoing workshops) to learn about the business of music, instrumentation, voice lessons and more
4. A place to network with their peers and
5. Build an appreciative fan base
"The Mix To Go Music Summit" is a new event that will combine with "The Rhythm & Soul Music Festival" to focus on music education-workshops, dance classes, demo sessions and more during the day...and the festival in the evenings and at night.
Where the money goes:
to host it for two days
(The venue, sound, security)
2 bands for the concert
7 artists plus the hostess
(Flyers, posters, stage banners (2), event booklet to all who attend, certificate of completion to 100 students who attend 4 out of 7 day workshops; more will be made if the response is greater out of pocket by me)
Advertising (mostly online)
4 DJs to perform downstairs in between performances, evening event
Webmaster to create and maintain a site for a music education website for the ongoing events throughout the year via ning.com (he is only charging me $50/month!)
The cost of this event is small but what it will do for all who attend and participate is pricessless.
I am committed to doing more of these events every season...in up to four cities throughout the year for as long as I live and breathe. But the funding will hopefully be a one-time thing...after the first one is successful (and they always have been in the past) I will have the means to do more without sponsors or outside funding; I can sell tickets and other things.
The website I will create and maintain will allow students of all ages-especially young people-to learn about music as an art form and the right way to pursuit it as a business. I will utilize my own record deals to assist those who are ready to go and educate others. ..regardless of race, age or financial means.
The ongoing workshops will be hosted at the same venue we are renting for this event...I have made arrangements with the owner. He knows it is good business to give back...but he also knows as I do the importance of cultivating your community because THAT is good for all of us.
NO liquor will be served; this is about music education...not exploitation.
There will be NO SPONSORS...but advertising in our event guide will be allowed If these entities contribute positive services and/or products to this event.
Admission will be FREE.
Anyone who contributes is invited to attend and be recognized. ..but if you do not attend but contribute I would like to thank you in advance.
