Each year, Memorial Day Weekend is the "unofficial" launch of summer. This was first begun by a number of club promoters in the late 80's and early 90's who left NYC and traveled to Miami to produce some of the hottest parties at hotels, pool parties and of course nightclubs. What set these events apart was the vastness of the turnout. Thousands flocked to Miami Beach and the most incredible DJ lineups, celebrities and tourists all came together for a great time.
Hollywood jumped on the bandwagon with the release of big summer movies and the music industry was also in, launching major singles that were "leaks" during the spring and breakout hits by Memorial Day Weekend. I famously remember how every year there was a major house release and a major hip-hop release during the Winter Music Conference...or a cross between the two in other formats. In recent years I have heard the rumblings of party promoters complain that "Miami is done," "Miami is old news," "I'm doing my weekend getaway in the Caribbean now," etc. Is this to say the once-favorite place in the southeast region has lost its power?? Of course not! Not if you travel to SoBe during that weekend each year. Anyone who thinks "The Beach" has lost its allure has lost their ability to see what is going on. I also know that is a selling point for what they are doing elsewhere so let's look beneath the surface of such comments and conversations. If you ever hear them then ask "have you been to Miami Beach lately?" Forget "well my friend said" as a response because that just doesn't cut it. Have YOU been there lately?!?! "MIX TO GO MIAMI" is my concept for people who remember the way it used to be, know how it is right now and how it will be in the future. Miami is constantly reinventing itself, and nightlife and other industries are always flourishing because of this constant elevation for self-improvement of the economy. This party weekend features local DJs and DJs like myself who travel there to partake in one of a few select events that are the memories that insiders carry with them long after Memorial Day Weekend is over. We have selected certain nightclubs and ultra lounges in and around the South Beach, Miami area in hopes that we can satisfy the various tastes and needs of party goers this particular weekend. The flyer pictured above is one of the main nights we are producing. Mix To Go Magazine will cover it, Mix To Go Massive will be producing it in association with a couple of promotion teams from Ft. Lauderdale and West Palm Beach. Be sure to RSVP by either emailing [email protected] or send a text to me directly: (305) 707-4730 (DO NOT CALL). See you on the beach!
