#keepitsimple sometimes.
Life isn't complicated but people can be. Just be yourself and the rest will happen. I don't have all the answers but I know me and don't lie to myself. I may lie to you though. You can start with my example. Do what you can with what you have. Keep your circle small and tight. That goes for family, friends, your neighbors, spiritual connectors, business tastemakers. There can be several circles that expand out from your inner but your inner is the most important one. I have learned the hard way what happens when you allow the wrong people into your cipher. Over the years the wrong people have worn all kinds of faces. They were from all 5 of the circles I mentioned. This year just began and #2017 (2017) already feels like a long overdue classic. I haven't had a classic since I met my wife (although we have had legendary years all along). While I am not a fan of "kissing and telling" I share here because there are a lot of people looking at what I post, listening to the music I play and hearing me speak over global airwaves. Just know that I will be me through it all...that is why you are reading this and why you will come back. I just hope when you return you are a little better than how this post found you. ((UPDATED POST-EXCLUSIVE TO THIS SITE ONLY)) When all of the above was written it was a premonition for what has been happening all around me. In my life and in the world outside of it, I am experiencing the best and most interesting of times. The business of music continues to generate new opportunities for people who have no musical talent but have the hustle needed to be successful-that at the end of the day is all you need to make it, if you go by who is successful at times. The business of life requires you to have just as much hustle and even more so at times, creative flow to get to your goals. There is nothing that cannot be accomplished if you put your mind to it. I am living proof. I haven't been through everything or seen it all but I have seen enough to know this fragile thing called life is no joke...but you have to find the humor in the math (I didn't originate that last part but it stays with me; one of my Brothers said it to me back in 1996). What can you offer this life and more importantly the people in it? "This life" as I refer to it is a reference to YOU; the people in it are the people all around you. What are doing for yourself and what are you doing for your community? "Community" can be family, friends, co-workers, business partners, spiritual connectors, community organizers and/or the future of you (your children)? If you don't have any children...where then does the legacy of you continue? How does the dream of you continue? What are you going to do to bring the rest of you and what you represent to fruition? If not through my children then the seeds of my knowledge, wisdom and understanding will break bread for the minds, inspiration and physical assets of all the human families on the planet. As Sean Connery said in "The Untouchables" to Kevin Costner's character, "what are you prepared to do?" After a bit of resistance in a clearly less than confident response, Connery remixes his question: "and then what?" Do you have a plan? And if that doesn't work...do you have a plan B? What if that doesn't work? Learn how to have a plan but stay flexible so you can keep your plan relevant. It can NEVER become stale or obsolete. Until soon...look for more gems and jewels on my radio show segment "Community Square" during certain mix shows I produce for Urban Movement Radio.
