#stayintune with DJ Freedom...where music matters!!
We have all heard (hopefully you have) about the Grammy award nominees. In case you haven't some of the controversy is around Beyoncé getting 9 nominations (that means she will be there...because as Kanye explained artists only show up when they are going to win....so I suppose he will be there also). Other artists who were nominated include one of my favorites in soulful R&B Anthony Hamilton (with Shirley Caesar) as well as another favorite Jill Scott and Flume. Sia, Ariana Grande, Adele and Rihanna all have noms as well as Justin Bieber, Ziggy Marley, Kaskade and Prince (for "best engineered album"). I am happy for everyone getting nominated. But the politics I don't like is how an artist can be nominated in the same category for 2 songs. With all of the talented singers, rappers, DJs, remixes and entertainers out here I don't get how these things happen. This year I will not gripe and complain like a lot of us do when watching the 3+ hour showcase take place; I will join the Recording Academy and make my vote count...because you have to be in it, right? Originally I was going to select my choices for who I think would win. After giving it some thought I am good with what many of do each year: watch the show, hope some of our favorites win...but most importantly, enjoy the mash up performances they have become known for. Make a stop by my site each day for updates on what is happening in music...but don't expect any controversy; I am IN the business of music also. ;) #tuneintuesday #goodmusic #Grammy#musicawards #rnb #rap #dance #remix#popvocal #urban #bestalbum#bestsong #reggae #Latin #bestvocal#performance #mixtogo#DJFreedomLives

#donnasummer is among the 120 Degrees Of Music (legendary artists)! 1 year ago a mix aired on UrbanMovementRadio.com featuring all of Donna Summer's biggest dance hits. The mix was 2 hours and is regarded by many DJs and tastemakers as one of the best I have done.
LaDonna Adrian Gaines was born December 31, 1948 and returned to the essence May 17, 2012. She is regarded as the Queen Of Disco, known to some as the First Lady of Love and wore a variety of hats in entertainment: singer, songwriter (she wrote all her songs), actress and painter. Donna Summer won 5 Grammy awards, was the first artist to have 3 consecutive double albums reach #1 on Billboard's album charts and has sold over 140 million albums making her one of the best selling artists of all time! Donna Summer has 32 hit singles on the Hot 100 IN HER LIFETIME, with 14 reaching the top 10. She posthumously was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2013. Get the mix here in its original form: https://m.mixcloud.com/djfreedomlives/dj-freedoms-house-massive-celebrate-donna-summer-sat-01-09-16/ Get the mix in an edited form just below this post. Say what you want about Beyonce, but her accolades are self explanatory. She made more than anyone else from touring alone ($256,084,556), More video plays than just about everyone (over 2 billion), More Grammy nominations than anyone...you get the idea. She employs DJs on her tour; she sold out Wembly Stadium in London July 2 & 3 with the help of DJ Magnum; sold out Citi Field in Queens, NYC with DJ Khaled June 7 and 8; and with DJ Scratch in Chicago May 27-28. That will kill any noise about her keeping her ears to the streets...and the clubs. My Brother in music told me he was fortunate enough to get his team to be blessed by a spot on Bae's "Lemonade" album...and there wasn't a DJ or radio station that could avoid at least one song from Beyoncé this year...try as some claimed they did/would. She of course made a supreme dent with her performance during the halftime show at last year's Super Bowl-and the surprise release of "Lemonade" with a full length visual of every song caused not only fans' jaws to drop but Kanye West to run his jibs: the visual album is a concept he claims to have given Beyoncé a few years ago (proof positive in his little known "Run Away" mini movie). Controversy will follow our Sister as it is what comes along when you are at the top of the game. Jay Z has been low key to much of the formation but Bae's sister Solange managed to squeeze out a superior than most album that sports visuals in her videos that prove earthy unlike Beyoncé giving us the glitz. My choice to give Beyoncé R&B Artist of 2016 did not come easy and you may be surprised to find out it was NOT based on all the accolades. I based it on my own features of her newest album on many of my radio shows, submissions by DJs to radio and club for at least 4 singles and my realization that Beyoncé has solidified her place in black music as an artist who can cross over without selling short her creative output. #Beyoncé #Bae #lemonade #bestof2016#mixtogo #DJFreedomLives#UrbanMovementRadio #dance #touring#stageshow #boxscore #citifield#ontheroad #sorrynotsorry#sheiswhosheis #famegame #club#top40 #socialife is all about what is going on in our community!
The goal is highlight things that affect our world as they pertain to music. I came across this flyer and thought what a great idea! A concert the same day as Donald Trump's inauguration with big name artists who donate their time and talent for one common cause. Turns out to not be a concert at all but rather an idea for it. But this flyer/poster has been circulating around the internet all week and many will not fact check like I will; you will never see me post gossip or trash talk. No time for that! The Freedom Concert as a concept would include John Legend, Bruce Springsteen, and the cast of the Broadway musical Hamilton. But the flyer lists no location, and its accuracy has been debunked by Scopes, which notes that even though a concert promoter said he was planning a Freedom Concert, the show "has not been officially announced, no major celebrities have agreed to perform, and image showing a flyer from the event is fake." When I contacted a booking agent I know to get insight to an artist they work with who is featured on the flyer, they told me it has no weight and they need to be careful. I am all for "speaking things into existence," but this took time to construct...and can cause fallout-and the point of it will be lost due to improper strategy implementation. In other words they messed up. More to come! #freedomconcert #fake #actualfacts only #goodmusic and #positivevibes are the thing #livemusic #neveradullmoment#liveauthentic #nobs #rockshow#stayintune #Woodstock #2017 #dyverseko is the
second artist to be signed to Mix To Go Music! ((The first by the way is DJ Freedom.)) Dyverse KO is an upcoming recording artist who has been on the scene independently for a few years. My meeting with her originally was to book an event at her space, TW (Tech World) Painting With Friends. It is located in the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn, by the way. When we meet in 2014 it was to discuss a single release of one dance song that I would produce featuring her vocals. It wasn't to be...not yet. A few months ago in October we met again and discussed the possibility of working together and the rest is history: we are going to put in work and come up with original dance songs and remixes. No time will be wasted as #2017 kicks off with a hot new dance single in January! Additional singles will follow in March and by May an EP. We'll heat up the summer with a full album and mini tour. Updates on my progress with Dyverse KO will go on my site and various social pages every Friday exclusively (this is going up Monday because it was already up this past Friday in a shorter "article"). I will also add another bit about Dyverse KO in my post on Tuesdays about Mix To Go Music, my record label, which produces my radio shows every Saturday. Go to the tab to hear them or click here. #goodmusic is why I do this...so stay in touch and as always #stayintune 🎵🎵🎧🎤 #dance #club #top40 #housemusic#Rnb #newyear #newmusic#tropicalhouse #samba #reggaeton#crossover #freshface #stayintune with DJ Freedom!
...in 2017, we are doing away with buttons on phones. At least, this will be the case for the new Samsung Galaxy 8. It has been a while since I have dropped my cell in the toilet, a cup of my favorite green tea with honey or the glass of a drink of an unsuspecting patron at a club I may be spinning. But the features are everything a social tastemaker needs to make a mountain out of a molehill. Not to mention the ugly recall of the Samsung Note 7 which crashed and burned last year...embarassing for such a respected line of devices. I have never owned any of the Note phones but was considering the 7; something said wait for the regular Galaxy 7 to come down before switching. Now I am definitely going to wait for the Samsung Galaxy 8. Maybe. DJ Freedom's "Classic Pitch Workout!"1/2/2017 DJ Freedom's "Classic Pitch Workout" on Urban Movement Radio (.com)
this past Saturday, 4-6pm est...didn't actually air until 8pm, so it was a great way to bring in the new year for some who were listening! You have never heard classics mixed together like this! This is what happens when you put Salsoul, Motown and Philly Soul in the mix together. For the first time, I mixed 4 major themes within the classic dance frame: Motown, Philly Int'l, Salsoul and exclusive remixes of 7 classics made new again. Instead of following the traditional rnb, funk, disco and/or soul styles these songs originate in, I decided to present this mix in a housed up fashion...but with all new style and flair. This was a truly classic show. Hope you didn't miss it. If you did a special version of the show will be posted to my site on Wednesday, 7pm, est. I am also going to speak to the station about doing a repeat broadcast every Wednesday at the same time for the same show! I have a LOT of people following me and not everyone listens on the weekend-which is why I did shows on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays in the first place. Let me know if you heard the mix with a comment here on this post. If you are interested in booking DJ Freedom: [email protected] or (646) 961-1096. #motown #salsoul #phillysoul #soultrain#disco #funk #housemusic #dance#boogie #iconic #classics #rnb #funk#rework #mixtogo #djfreedomlives#urbanmovementradio #StayInTune with #DJFreedomLives (DJ Freedom)!
Every Wednesday at 7pm, est...a new mixtape mix show. Many will come directly from my weekly radio shows, but I may also create a special mix JUST for listeners who can appreciate a commercial-free, drop free (other than my own) mix. The catch: the mixes will be just under 80 minutes as I may decide to press up promotional CDs to give away at events and parties I am producing and/or booked for. UrbanMovementRadio.com Listen to my shows every Saturday, 4-6pm est. on UrbanMovementRadio.com. Here is the schedule for the next month: "Classic Pitch Workout" (12.31.16) ...this classic disco, garage, loft and old school show will combine four (4) major themes: Motown, Philly Soul, Salsoul and some of my own remixes and favorites. Motown speaks for itself, but "Philly Soul" refers to the kind of classics released in the 70's to the mid-80's. These songs and artists crafted songs and albums that are timeless-messages of every kind with well written verses, excellent delivery and of course-the MUSIC was what brought it all together. "Philly Soul" was not only a sound but a record label specifically known as Philadelphia International Records. The label was distributed by CBS Records (Sony Music Group today) and is featured on more radio stations around the world than any other record label and production team. "Salsoul" is named after the record label Salsoul Records. They came along in the 70's and 80's as well-crafting a similar sound and style as Philly Soul only there were more disco and Latin stylings in some of the songs (hence the combination of the words "salsa" and "soul")...but they would find their greatest success in artists like Instant Funk and Skyy. This show over the next several editions will explore the various styles of these different record labels, which were movements in sound and style. They are significant to today's music and are widely sampled and influence what producers and artists do! "Club Massive" (01.07.17) This show used to air on Wednesdays weekly during the summer and fall of 2016. The themes changed weekly-from Samba and Tropical House to Moomba and top 40. All of the songs are remixed and then reworked live during the mix. I introduced a theme called "Global Fusion" in this show, but GF has gone on to become its own theme-a cross between house and club but with global and urban flair. "Club Massive" will this time focus on a sub-theme I call "Disco In The House" or "Neo Disco." Haven't fully decided yet...but it will be hints of disco with upbeat, peak-hour dance grooves and songs. "Hip Hop Lives!" (01.14.17) This show will feature a return to a theme I introduced last year on my "Soul Massive" show. All throughout my shows that feature R&B or Neo Soul, I have always played hip-hop. It is what I grew up listening to and I am happy to present this unique mix show that will feal like a mix tape, with freestyles, spoken word bits and sound bites from famous people of all walks of life. "Hip Hop Lives" may evolve into "Hip Hop Is Life," which is how I post on Instagram and other pages weekly theme-wise. But it will always be about hip-hop that is big on lyricism, good instrumentals and artists who represent with subject matter beyond guns, girls and guap/gwap/gwop (however you spell it). "House Massive" (01.21.17) This show has been with me under many names over the years-"Dance After Dark" may come up in searches online. But "House Massive" is mainly for the soulful house community; it is decidedly underground and features mainly independent artists. They are generally speaking very well known and have healthy careers but you will not hear most of them on commercial radio, see their videos go viral or see them perform when they travel to the limited number of American cities that will have them. This is based on politics in the business of music for songs by artists who the commercial major labels control-I won't get into that here. Let's just say the music is definitely good, and you will always enjoy every theme IF you like house music. This particular show theme will focus on original songs and tracks I am going to release legally. Some of the singles already appear in shows I have produced for Urban Movement Radio but others were only played on mix shows posted independent of those shows. This will be the first time you will get to hear ONLY songs and tracks I have produced and/or remixed. "Soul Massive" (1.28.17) I haven't decided yet what the theme will be for this show but it will likely be the usual mix ot R&B, neo soul and hip-hop styled tracks and hip-hop soul.
